Missing in Action Cont.

June 21, 2007

these past few weeks have been hectic & mind numbing to say the least. it all started with the dramatically increased work load at my part time workplace. (in case i didn’t mention earlier, it’s a magazine publishing co.) the guy who did the bulk of the graphic designing there left the country just as it was discovered that due to prior commitments the release date would have to be brought forward by at least one whole month. i still didn’t have a permanent job at the time so i, (the great idiot that i am) agreed to the task of finishing off the majority of the magazine’s artwork by myself.

going off to work early in the morning & coming home late late late at night became my routine for about 3 weeks. non stop employment with no weekends or public holidays taken into consideration. at first mindful of this soul sapping routine, i consoled myself with the thought that “i could at least relax with a spot of surfing the web or record my favourite tv shows to be viewed later on my home computer”. that is until my computer monitor finally decided to give up the ghost on the very first day of this new regiment!

so no surfing of the numerous websites or forums, no way of checking my e-mails & other stuff, no chance of visiting this blog site to jot down my rambling thoughts or no way to record the various television programs i would otherwise have missed, during that entire time period. due to the heavy workload i did not even have time to go visit a net cafe or to take the monitor in for repairs. “grumpy” would be an understatement to describe how i was feeling at that moment. they did have internet connection at the workplace but for official use only…

…just as i was about to enter my fourth week of “voluntary enslavement” i got a phone call, but this time offering me a “full time” employment “immediately!”. at last!…some good news to write home about! that phone call really made my day & helped to diminish the clouds of gloom that had begun to gather ’round me. however as my part time work has still not been finished, i suspected that far more “difficult” days lay ahead. i wasn’t mistaken…

so as you can imagine i spent the next 1-1.5 weeks switching between the “full time” & the “part time” work places & pretty much working like a dog! by my rough estimate upto 16 hours per day were spent working & travelling to and from the various work places. 4-5 hours per day were spent sleeping. 2 hours were spent..you get the picture…

finally, after more than one month of frantic, hectic, soul/energy sapping mayhem, things finally began to calm down. finished my part time work (thank god!) & managed to get my monitor repaired. downloaded ’bout a zillion e-mails which had piled up during my absence. enjoying more than 8 hours sleep once more and beginning to procrastinate again. in short, things are back to the way they were. i still wonder though as to how i survived one month of such utter madness!

i said things are back to the way they were…no, thats not quite right. in fact there is a big difference between then and now. i’m no longer UNEMPLOYED!!!
